CHILDREN’S HOME

MEETING OF BOARD. EX-INMATE SERVING WITH FORCES. The chairman (Mr F. E. Wells) presided at the monthly meeting of the board of the Masterton Methodist Children’s Home. Other members present were Mesdames Kings, Cocker, Daniell, Miss Burton, Messrs Handyside, Judd, Nicol, Wellington, the Rev H. S. Kings and Dr Prior. The matron was also in attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Elliott. Messrs Daniell and Whitlock. It was reported that a new washing machine had been purchased and installed. and was giving satisfaction. It was stated that the annual appeal had been printed and was ready for distribution. A donation of £1 was received from Frank Daynes, an ex-inmate of the Home, and also £2 from his father. These were gratefully acknowledged and put into the fund for supplying sports gear for the children. A message of congratulation on the results attending the board’s efforts during the past year was received from the Taranaki-Wanganui Synod. Accounts amounting to £124 14s 2d were passed for payment. The matron reported that conditions at the Home were satisfactory. Three children had gone back to their parents.- Homes for the majority of the children had been found for whole.or part of the school holidays. It was announced that the Wellington Board had approved the installation of showers in the bathrooms. Greetings were received from Mr Jim Davis, an ex-inmate of the Home, who is serving witn the Middle East Forces.
