MASTERTON COUNTY

MEETING OF FINANCE COMMITTEE TAR SEALING PROPOSALS. OFFICE HOLIDAYS FIXED. A meeting of the finance committee of the Masterton County Council was held in the Council Chambers. Masterton, this afternoon. The chairman, Mi H. H. Mawley presided. There were also present Councillors R. E. Gordon Lee, J. W. Colquhoun, J. Donald. G. Moore. P. R. Welch and the County Clerk. Mr J. C. D. Mackley. The treasurer reported on the state of accounts at the Bank of New Zealand at November 30 as follow: — County fund account, debit, £5025 16s 4d; bridge fund loan account. £879 Is 7d; bridge loan account (1938), credit. £5BOl 2s 3d, £4OO of which was on fixed deposit; workers' dwelling loan account, credit. £9 2s 6d; imprest account, credit. £550. The receipts since the last meeting totalled £lO7l 19s 3d, of which £321 Is 4d represented subsidies paid by-the Main Highways Board on road maintenance and construction works. The total subsidies outstanding and due by the Main Highways Board and the Public Works Department at November 30 were £3396 19s 2d. Accounts for £5042 4s lid were recommended for payment.

It was decided that the ordinary meeting of the council in January’ be cancelled, but a special committee was. appointed to consider financial mattersand pass accounts before January 20. The County Clerk reported that ten ■ tiers had been called, to close at noon on Thursday, December 12. 1940, foi tar-sealing the Masterton-Castlepoint and Masterton-Stronvar main highways and Colombo Road.

The matter of recommending a tenderer to the Main Highways Board was left in the hands of the chairman and the County Clerk. The annual holidays for the office staff were fixed from Monday, December 23, 1940, to Monday, January’ 13. 1941, both days inclusive.
