ART CLUB

FORMATION IN MASTERTON. THIS EVENING'S MEETING. Much interest is being taken in the meeting to be held in the Masterton Sketch Club Rooms tonight for the purpose of forming an art club in Masterton. A pleasing feature is the cooperation and. support promised by members of the Masterton Sketch Club. The club, though not financially weakened, has a small membership and its members, it is stated, would like to see a strong art club formed locally. If such a club is formed, every assistance will be given. The present Sketch Club has been in existence about 20 years. Masterton, it is asserted, is becoming more and more art minded. The two recent outside exhibitions have helped to stimulate interest in art. Masterton is fortunate to possess one of the best-trained art teachers who has left London. It is stated that the town is ■to inherit a very fair beginning for an art gallery in the future. The chief troubles experienced by the Sketch Club in the past, it is stated. are that young members feel outside the circle of the older members and that men interested in art are not very interested' in a club run by women. These factors could be overcome and it is anticipated that at tonight's meeting a strong club will be formed, incorporating the present club.
