MASTERTON BRANCH. FINAL MEETING OF THE YEAR. The final meeting of the year of the Masterton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held on Thursday afternoon, and was presided over by Miss Tankersley. Mrs Jansen led devotions. Several apologies for absence were received. It was decided to send flowers to the sick and aged members as a Christmas token of goodwill. Several additional parcels were received for the Sailors’ Rest Room at ■ Timaru. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Mrs H. Speight and Miss Jackson. At the close of the meeting Miss Tankersley extended greetings to all and good wishes for the Christmas season, which were heartily reciprocated. This was followed by a prayer and the singing of the Temperance Doxology. The Temperance fact as presented by Mrs Speight was as follows:—The Joint Pastoral Letter, issued in November last by the Archbishop of Quebec, which was read in 1,400 parishes states: “The true science and commonsense in perfect accord with truth will always prove that all beverages containing alcohol are a danger to the physical, intellectual and moral life of the individual, to peace in the family and to the prosperity of the nation.”
