WELFARE LEAGUE

MEETING IN MASTERTON WORK OF BLIND INSTITUTE. MRS KILGOUR ELECTED LIFE MEMBER. The last meeting this year of the Women's National Welfare League was held at the Midland Hotel, Masterton, yesterday afternoon. Miss Kummer was in the chair, and there were also present: Mesdames S. Fletcher, R. C. Drummond, A. W. McKenzie, E. J. Coleman. H. P. Glen, H. P. Harrison. F. Reynolds, R. Whyborn, G. H. Collie, F. Garland, H. E. Pither, S. N. Kilgour, Misses M. Cameron, Guild, Wilson, Beiliss and M. Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames T. Jordan, G. G. Tolhurst, W. Andrew, W. L. Hunter, S. J. Munn and T. F. Watson.

Miss Beiliss reported on the visits which had been paid to the Masterton Hospital during November. Flowers, ‘fruit and literature had been distributed, and in addition teas had been served to patients in the T.B. ward. Mesdames Drummond and Kilgour were appointed visitors to the hospital for December and on Christmas Eve, and Mrs Fletcher was appointed for January. The sum of £1 was voted towards the provision of Christmas cheer for patients in the T.B. ward at the hospital. The secretary was instructed to send cards to the inmates of all wards. It was decided to visit the Buchanan Home, in connection with the annual Christmas celebration, on December 17. The provision of cars and entertainers was left in the hands of Miss KumPmer. A particularly large number of parcels for the mystery tubs at the gala day and children's display at the Park today were handed in. Mrs Pither reported on the work of the Blind Institute and several orders for goods went through. It was decided to call a special meeting later in connection with the sale of goods made by the Blind Institute at the next Masterton Show. Mrs A. W. McKenzie stated that several needy cases had been attended to, for which a large number of parcels had been received. A family had been provided with shoes and sandals. Miss Kummer extended a welcome to Mrs Whyborn who has resumed attendance at the meetings following illness. On the motion of Miss Kummer, seconded by Miss Bo_ddington, it was unanimously decided that Mrs S. N. Kilgour be elected a life member of the League. Mrs Kilgour suitably replied. The president and executive officers were presented with floral gifts, after which Miss Kummer extended seasonal greetings to members and provided afternoon tea. The League will go into recess until March.
