MURDER UNCHAINED

RUMANIA’S RECENT WEEK OR TERROR HUNDREDS OF VICTIMS. ARMY NOW TAKING A HAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 11.45 a.m.) LONDON. December 6. The Iron Guards killed between 350 and 50C people, half of them Jews, in the first Rumanian week of terror, which began on November 27. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Budapest correspondent says this in an uncensored message. “I have just left Rumania,” he states, ‘where I saw the actual slaughter. It

was impossible to arrive at a close estimate of the dead. Most of the witnesses of assassinations are either afraid to tell what they have seen or are in hiding. I estimate that between a hundred and two hundred intellectuals, politicians, aristocrats and others have been killed. Hundreds of leading Rumanians are so afraid of assassination that they are hiding in the woods.” General Antonescu today issued a decree providing for the trial by courtmartial of Rumanians rebelling against the Army. This is believed to be designed to strengthen the Army against the Iron Guard.
