FLEECE COMPETITION
ALFRED MATTHEW’S MEMORIAL CUP. ENTRIES NOW BEING INVITED. District farmers are reminded of the Farmers’ Union crossbred fleece competition and are asked to make the contest one of real educational value Entries are now invited. No entry fee is charged but each fleece is to be the property of the Farmers’ Union. There are four classes, fleeces 36 tc 40 count. 44 to 46 count, 48 to 50 count, and hogget class open, not exceeding 50 count. Prizes of £2 and £1 are offered and the winners of the championship fleece will hold the Alfred Matthews Memoru.l Cup for a year. Romney type must predominate in the champion fleece. A special prize is also offered for the heaviest fleece. The judge will be Mr V. S. Wilton and the fleeces will be exhibited at the Masterton Show. A separate judging competition will be held by members of Young Farmers’ clubs. Farmers are urged to make their entries as soon as possible in order to facilitate the early collection of fleeces.
