TIRAUMEA

COMING-OF-AGE PARTY (“Times-Age” Special.) A party was given in the Tiraumea Hall recently by Mr and Mrs Goof Curtis to celebrate the coming-of-age of their second son Desmond. Mr and Mrs Curtis received the guests, there being about 250 present, relatives and friends coming from as far away as Wellington, Masterton, Dannevirke, Pongaroa and the surrounding districts. The time was spent in dancing, the music being supplied by Mrs Geof Moulbrooke and Mr Rowden. Mr Hansen was a capable M.C. At a suitable interval, the two-tiered birthday cake, which was made by Mrs Hansen and iced and decorated by Mrs Wallis, was wheeled into the main hall. Mr Hansen called on Mr Scott Raleigh to propose the toast of tho guest of honour, which he did in a few well chosen words. Mr Raleigh then called on Mr Desmond Curtis to cut the cake and while this was being done he was accorded musical honours. Mr D. Curtis suitably replied. Mr Curtis then presented his son with the usual key to the house. Dancing was continued till supper, which was set out in the supper room. The popularity of Mr D. Curtis was shown by the large number of gifts which he received. The party was brought to a close at midnight with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem.
