S.M. COURT NIREAHA STORE INCIDENT. At the special sitting of the Eketahuna S.M. Court on Wednesday before Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., Bruce Davidson and Leslie Washington, both of Nireaha were each fined £2, with costs, 10s, on charges of disorderly conduct. In outlining the case for the police, Constable McCowan stated that accused had on their return from a visit to Pahiatua burst in a door of the Nireaha Store. There had been four persons in the car, but the two accused were the only ones connected with the breaking in of the door. Nothing was missing from the store, and the police viewed the matter as a drunken escapade. Washington, who had had two previous convictions against him, was at present on probation. There was nothing known against Davidson, whose family was highly respected in the district. Mr. Page appeared for accused, and admitted that the facts outlined by the police were substantially correct. He stated that Washington's employer was ready to keep him in his employ. The accused, who were friends of the manager of the store, had called in on their way home. Receiving no reply to their knocks, they had foolishly burst the door in, but had touched nothing in the store. The magistrate severely admonished the accused. Steady Rain After a fortnight’s hot weather a steady rain commenced to fall last night, and continues this morning. Although it will be of much benefit to pastures, it will curb shearing activities, which are now in full swing in the Eketahuna district.
