It was Tommy's first experience of a public shelter, and Mrs. Jones, a friend of his mother, was doing her best to entertain the small boy. In one of those sudden silences which happen even in shelters, Tommy’s mother was chagrined to hear a piping little voice explain: “Well, I don't know, Mrs. Jones because I've never been in a shelter before. But I'm nearly three in the train, four on the bus, and five at school.”
