GIRL GUIDES RAISING FUND FOR PATRIOTIC PURPOSES. (“Times-Age” Special.) Tile members of the local Girl Guides Company are doing something practical to help in raising funds for patriotic purposes. A quarter-acre paddock in Princess Street was placed al their disposal by Mr Frank Gray, who also lent a tractor and plough to ihe girls. The tractor was driven by Miss Gray (also a Girl Guide) and after the ground had been prepared and well manured, the girls planted potatoes which were the gift of Mr R. Nicol, ol Tablelands. The result now to be seen is one of the finest potato crops in ihe district. Mr W. B. Martin assisted by having water laid to the ground, and offers have already been made to purchase the crop. A New Grader. With its usual foresight the Featherston County Council has purchased a new grader for use on the county roads. The machine has a 12 foot blade and is hydraulic controlled. Though only arrived yesterday afternoon from Wellington, it was put into commission this morning. Plunket Sale. A very successful sale'in aid of its funds was held by the local branch of the Plunket Society when there was r large attendance of the public, and brisk business done at all the stalls. The competitions were won as follows: —Ham. Mrs L. A. Campbell; Christmas cake, Mrs Dale; white elephant, Mrs Kershaw; cup and saucer, Miss Martin.
