GREYTOWN

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY. ("Times-Age” Special.) The garden party held on Saturday afternoon by the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild at the residence of Mrs. A. Johnson was a great success. The weather was ideal and there was a large attendance. The various stalls did excellent business. The winners of the competitions were: —Lucky gate number, Mrs. R. Montgomerie; baby’s outfit, Mrs. Boyle; baby's cardigan. Mary Ann Peterson; cake. Alan Morgan: half-lamb, Mrs. H. Ball; quarfer-lamb. Mrs. Bull, sen.; quarter-lamb. Mrs. A. Roband; croquet competition. Mrs. Vance; golf competition, Misses B. and E. Gregor, tie. Mr. J. F. Wallis, in the absence of Rev. H. Bloomfield, thanked Mr. ana Mrs. Johnson for the use of their grounds, the donor of goods, and al] who had assisted in making the garden party such a success. The takings amounted to £4l. The stall holders were: Jumble, Mesdames McLeod, Parker, Morgan and Findlay;' sweet stall, Mrs. M. Whimp; Cake stall. Mesdames Gregor, Todd and Miss E. Gregor; Tea Rooms, Mesdames Bower, Evans, Burgess, Wallis and Miss Stephenson. BOWLING PAIRS TOURNAMENT. Twenty-eight bowlers took part in the progressive pairs tournament held on the Greytown green. Several members of the Park Club participated. Mr. F. Dennes was the winning skip with four wins, and J.' Burden won the colts' section. The president, Mr. T. Connolly, presented thee prizes to the winners, and also thanker/ the Park members for joining in the competition. Gold bars: Against Carter and Higgison, Shedden and Dennes made a bold bid to secure a win, and the game was in doubt up till the last head. The holders won by a margin of four points, after a very fine exhibition of bowling by both sides.

PRIZE-GIVING METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL. There was a good attendance at' the Methodist Church when the Sunday School annual prize-giving took place. During the first part of the evening the scholars presented a drama “Building the Church,” in which each scholar m ought forward a block and wnile placing it in position illustrated the virtue each represented. Suitable hymns sung by the children helped to make the service an inspiring one. Mrs. Mayson presented the prizes and certificates won by those who sat for the Wellington Sunday School Union Scripture Examination. A special prize donated by Mr. W. A. Tate, was presented to Clara Farrell who attained top marks in her grade, Pat Sugrue being second. Mrs. W. H. Sadler reported on the marking of the Tablet Work and presented three special prizes as follows to those doing the best work for the year:—Nola Brazendale 1; R. Gray 2; D. Farrell 3. Mrs. Longford's special prizes went to Hazel Farrell 1, and Fay Ross 2; cards. J. Farley 1, J. Nichols 2. The superintendent reported on the work during the year and thanked those who had assisted in any way to make the work successful. He expressed appreciation at the interest shown by Mr. W. A. Tate. "It is a good thing when the townspeople appreciate the work of the Sunday School and encourage it in its work." he said. The distribution of the attendance prizes brought the gathering’s to a close. As the children filed out of the church they were each given cherries and a piece of the 75th anniversary cake.

Social and Dance. The Greytown Citizens' Patriotic Committee will hold a social and dance in the Odd Fellows Hall tonight. When the guest of the evening will be Nurse Naomi Hodge. Personal. Miss Betty Kiernan, of East Street, was a visitor to Wellington for the weekend.
