GUARD DUTY

APPEAL FOR VOLUNTEERS. -. MEN FROM WAIRARAPA. A number of men have already responded in the Wairarapa to the appeal for volunteers for guard duty at vital points, but others are still required. Men from 40 to 54 years of age, with up to two children, are eligible. The duties which consist of guarding points such as oil tanks, magazines, etc., are congenial and should appeal to men who saw service in the last war. Men engaged in this service are entitled to one day’s leave every week, and to a fortnight’s annual leave on full pay. Allowances for a wife and children are payable to those with dependents. Application should be made at once to the Masterton Defence Office, or in writing direct to the Guard Company, Buckle Street, Wellington.
