Whitehead, who has been in the railway service at Carterton for some years, left with his wife and family this morning en route for his new position at the Wairoa railway station. Before leaving the Carterton. office yesterday Mr Whitehead was the recipient of a presentation in the shape of an electric hot water jug and an electric toaster. In making the presentation Mr T. Sullivan, stationmaster, referred in glowing terms to the service rendered at Carterton by their departing comrade. He hoped the change of air to Hawke's Bay would be beneficial to'both Mr Whitehead and his wife, who had not enjoyed the best of health. Other speakers were Messrs J. W. Bennett, senior porter, and W. Kempton. Mr Whitehead returned thanks. Mrs J. W. Bennett, of Wyndham Street, Carterton, is on a visit to Invercargill.
Mr T. Brewer, of Lower Hutt, commenced duty at the Carterton railway station this morning as chief clerk.
Boy Falls on Bottle. A son of Mr and Mrs Alf. Whitehead, when playing with other children on Monday, fell and suffered a nasty gash in one of his legs as the result of coming in contact with a broken bottle. Dr. Campbell attended the child. It was found necessary to insert several stitches.
