CHURCH SERVICE

LAST EVENING'S GATHERING. The weekly united intercession service was held last evening in the Methodist Church under the leadership of the Rev. J. A. Daglish. A congregation of some 80 people joined heartily in the singing of four well-known hymns and listened appreciatively to an inspiring message based on Paul’s words to the Romans (8/28): "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God. to them that are the called according to his purpose.” The preacher for the evening was the Rev C. T. Symonds, M.A., 8.D., the Senior Youth Director of the New Zealand Methodist Church. Mr Symonds went on to say that mistakes were made in the application of the words "all things work together for good” by people who forgot the qualifying words “to them that love God." It was through their love of God and their trust in Him that they were able to see all things in the larger purpose of God which, whilst it might be temporarily frustrated could never be ultimately defeated. And that purpose was for their good. Prayers during the service were relative to the needs of the present time. At the conclusion of the service Mr Symonds addressed Methodist Sunday School teachers on -Worship.” illustrating his talk by the use of posters and the black-board.
