MINIATURE RIFLES CONCLUSION OF SEASON. (“Times-Age” Special.) The featherston Miniature Rifle Club wound up the 1940 season in the Odd Fellows' Hall, when a euchre tourney and smoke concert was held. The euchre prize was won by Mrs Wilson with Mr A. Hodder second. After supper Miss Card (the Mayoress) presented the cups and trophies to the following successful winners: A grade Nix Cup, Mr A. Hodder: B grade Moriarty Cup, S. Buck; Austin Cup and Viles Cup. W. Johnson: Witcombe‘and Caldwell Cup No. 1. A. Hodder; Yule Cun and Watson Cup. S. Buck: trophies No. 1, H. McNamara 1. I. Feast 2. Miss Chalmers 3; trophies No. 2. E. McKenzie 1, S. Buck 2, J. Buck 3: trophies No. 3, M. McKenzie 1. S. Buck 2, W. Johnson 3; Miss H. Card's trophy, Miss Chalmers 1, Mrs Wilson 2: Mr Johnson's trophy, S. Buck 1, P. Burt and R. Buck 2.
Miss Card was thanked for presenting the trophies. There was a lengthy toast list with items and community singing, which made the evening most enjoyable.
LADY GALWAY GUILD ARTICLES ON DISPLAY. The articles to be despatched to the headquarters of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild, Wellington, will be displayed in the Red Cross rooms on Friday afternoon, from 2 o'clock, to give the public an opportunity of seeing the beautiful work, particularly the patchwork quilts, sent in from various districts.
DANCE AT PAHAUTEA SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED. A dance in honour of soldiers was held in the Pahautea Hall last night. Leading Aircraftsman D. McKenna and Private H. Frew were present. There was a large attendance of settlers, besides visitors from Wellington and Masterton. Mr Corlet was M.C. Mr J. A. Juno wished both lads the best of luck and a safe return and presented each with a watch from the settlers. Mrs Ross handed them a gift from the Pahautea Women’s Division, and Miss Corlet on behalf of the Kahutara Women’s Institute.
Mrs Connell contributed a vocal item.
The Lucky Spot competition was won by Mr S. Morris and Miss Peggy Warrington and the Monte Carlo by Mr C. Bourne and Miss M. Sansoon. The music was supplied by Udy's Orchestra. Posies were presented to Mrs McKenna and Mrs Frew. Supper was provided by the ladies. The evening closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne.” Personal. Miss M. Madsen, Masterton, is the guest of Mrs A. McKay, Pahautea. Sapper J. W. Bargh leaves today for Papakura. Mrs E. M. Wakley is visiting her daughter, Mrs Stanley Watts, Wellington. Mrs C. J. Ashton, Lower Hutt, was a visitor to Featherston yesterday. Mrs A. R. Bloxam, Wairoa, is the guest of Mr and Mrs H. R. Bloxam. There was a good attendance at the Home and School Association's euchre tourney held in the card room of the Anzac Hall on Tuesday night. The prize-winners were:— Ladies: Mrs Bambry, 1; Mrs C. Edwards, 2. Men: Mrs Kinsey, 1; Mr Perry, 2. Euchre Tourney and Dance. At a recent meeting of the Pahautea Hall Committee it. was decided to hold the usual euchre tourney and dance in aid of the children's Christmas tree, on Saturday night.
