MAURICEVILLE

SPORTS CLUB BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Mauriceville District Sports Club was held last night, the president. Mr D. Bennett being in the chair. There was a fair attendance. All officers were re-elected, including:—Patron, Mr J. L. Heckler; president. Mr D. Bennett; deputy-president, Mr R. A. Cameflon; secretary. Mr J. C. Bennett. It was decided to carry out the same sports programme as last year's, with slightly reduced prize money, all the proceeds to go to the Provincial Patriotic Fund. PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE DRIVE FOR FUNDS. The Mauriceville district patriotic committee began its activities in connection with the national drive for funds, by holding a function in the Mauriceville Hall on Saturday evening last. The gathering took the form of a dance, card tournament and produce stall. A special feature was the excellent home-made supper provided by local ladies.. The produce stall did brisk business. The prizes in the card tournament were won by the following: Ladies, Mrs W. Cheetham; men, H. Myers, Senr. The results of the raffles drawn were as follow: Benzine, Mr R. McGovern; goose, Miss M. Tildesley; turkey, Mr D. Johansen; lamb, Miss J. McGovern. Miss McGovern generously donated the lamb back to the committee for sale. As a result of the function the patriotic funds will benefit to the extent of £35. Personal Items. Mr W. Watson, of Wellington, is at present relieving Mr J. L. McArley, who has annual leave which he is spending in Taranaki. Mrs S. Swan and Miss A. Swan, of Palmerston North, are the guests of Mrs C. M. Clarke, Mauriceville. Mr and Mrs W. Wheeler, of Petone, were the guests of Mrs J. Milner for the weekend.
