COLLIE CLUB

YEAR’S OPERATIONS PROFIT SHOWN IN REPORT. SPLENDID PATRIOTIC EFFORT. The annual report of the Masterton Collie Club, which is signed by Mr J. M. James (president), states:— Although the balance sheet shows a profit for the year of £l5 3s 9d, this is more than accounted for by the profit on the dance, £l6 5s lOd. Apart from the dance, therefore, the season showed a loss of £1 2s Id. Our membership shows a slight decrease on last year, and every endeavour should be made to arrest same, and increase membership still further. For the dog trials the total entries this year were 101, being down 6 on last year, but this can ’almost wholly be accounted for by the atrocious weather conditions experienced during’ the trials. Competitors numbered 43 against 41 last year, and a numbei’ of huntaway competitors were prevented from attending by the heavy rain. Our thanks are extended to Mr S. F. Herbert, who so ably carried out the duties of judge, and to the very efficient working committee whose work was carried out under most trying conditions; and also to the number of outside competitors whose presence was most welcome. Our dance this year was made a patriotic effort, and was an unqUalified success both socially and financially, a profit of £l6 5s lOd being shown. The committee decided to make this amount up to £2O for the Provincial Patriotic Fund. Our special thanks are due to the ladies’ committee for their efforts in connection with the dance and at the trials. We also wish to express our thanks to Mr Geo. Shaw for the use of his grounds: to Mr C. J. Bennett, for supplying sheep; to Mr John McKay and Mr D. McKenzie, for the use of "holding paddocks; to the Press, for valuable assistance at all times; to donors of special prizes, and to all who helped in any way to make the trials the success they were.
