CRICKET COUNCIL
MAIN COMPETITIONS DROPPED. FOR DURATION OF WAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. November 21. Delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council decided unanimously that the Plunket Shield competitions (for major associations) and the Hawke Cup competitions (for minor associations) should be discontinued for the duration of the war. At the same time representatives of the management committee and other speakers expressed the view that cricket generally should be carried on as far as possible, where such efforts did not interfere with the war effort, and that younger players particularly should be encouraged. It was also announced that several major associations had already arranged to play friendly home-and-home matches and that the Hawke Cup Subcommittee of the council would assist minor associations to arrange games in their districts.
The following officers were elected: —Patron. Lord Galway, president, Mr. A. H. Allen, treasurer. Mr. E. R. Caygill. secretary. Mr. E. E. Luttrell; management committee: Messrs D. E. Wanklyn. J. Ramsden. J. L. Kerr. S. G. Lester and H. M. Taylor.
