STATE HOUSES
NEARLY NINE THOUSAND BUILT. APPLICATIONS FOR 21.848. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. “Houses completed by the Housing Department and in occupation throughout the Dominion at the end of October totalled 8,817 and the number of houses under construction in New Zealand at the same date was 3,012,” said the Minister of Housing (Mr Armstrong) this morning. He added that on October 1 last, the total number of applications for State rental houses for the whole of the Dominion was 21,848, while the number of houses advertised for contracts in the whole country was 12,818, and work was proceeding in 128 towns. Altogether, 4,967 artisans and labourers were employed.
