MARTINBOROUGH

BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Martin* borough Borough Council was held last night. There were present the Mayor (Mr C. W. Skill), Councillors C. R. Holmes, W. H. Corfield. G. P. Cotter, D. J. Green, and T. A. Hamilton. Mr A. Weber wrote resigning his position as caretaker of the Memorial Square.—The resignation was accepted with regret. Mr Greenaway was appointed to fill the vacancy. The National Art Gallery and Historical Committee wrote enclosing the annual report and asking for a donation—The letter was received. Mr W. Truman, Health Inspector, reported that the health of the borough was satisfactory. Accounts to the amount of £B3B 13s 4d were passed for payment. The Works Committee reported that culverts had been put in at several properties and that general work had been carried out during the month. It was decided that a rubbish collection be made in the borough on December 2. The overseer was instructed to inspect leaky taps and troughs in the borough and report to the Council.

It was decided to offer several vacant Council sections to the Health Department as military hospital sites or for other purposes.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT DYERVILLE. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Dyerville Institute, over which Mrs A. Jamieson presided. Two new members were elected. Nurse Twentyman gave a most interesting address on “Nutrition” and was presented with a shoulder posy. The competitions were won as follows: —Marmalade, Mrs Stewart; sponge, Mrs McGillicuddy; sultana cake, Mrs J. Harris; flowers, Mrs Chas. Smith. Arrangements were made for the Garden Party to be held at Mrs J. Harris’s residence. During the month special Christmas parcels were sent to the local soldiers who are serving overseas.
