SPORTS FEDERATION
MEETING IN MASTERTON. QUESTION OF HOLDING GATHERINGS. A meeting of the Wairarapa Horse Sports Federation was held in the Farmers’ Rooms, Masterton. yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr Hugm Morrison, presided over a good attendance, which included delegates from the Gladstone, Tinui, Langdale, Bideford and Martinborough clubs. Mr Morrison explained that the meeting had been called to discuss the question of whether the various clubs should hold their annual sports meetings. He stated that if any club found that it was unable to hold their sports on the day reserved for them by the Federation, this year the date could be taken by another club.
It was decided to send a circular to each club suggesting that they carry on with their activities as usual and pointing out that, although many mounted men would be in camp early in January, and would not be able to enter in the competitions, there were still women and children competitors in sufficient numbers to hold meetings. There may be a shortage of petrol, but the rationing committee would be asked to allow judges and competitors extra petrol, as in the case of A. and P. shows, as the sports meetings were really feeders for the shows. Each club should be able to run classes for hacks, hunters and children's events.
To enable dates to be allocated it was decided to ask all clubs to advise the secretary not later than November 29 whether they intended holding their sports. It was decided to donate 4 championship ribbons to each club. All clubs were asked io co-operate with the Farmers' Union in their district. in getting horses for the mounted camp.
