FREIGHT SERVICES
A WAR TIME MEASURE. Acting on the suggestion of the Minister of Transport the local motor carriers have adopted a war time measure for the conservation of petrol, and in order to give a maximum service in any emergency which may arise. It is essential in these war days that we should conserve all our resources for the purpose of achieving victory, and in this connection there can be no better effort than in evolving a scheme for the saving of petrol and being ready for any national emergency. With the formation of the Transport (Wairarapa) Limited this object will be achieved. The central control of motor trucks will give a better service, and there will be no overlapping. There will be built up a regular service over the various routes in - the district, thus providing an essential part of a policy for completing all contracts with the greatest despatch, and without unnecessary waste in petrol or material. The individual motor carriers will continue their operations and extend them in order to provide the best possible service on the basis of working in with the new company as shareholders. With the introduction of the new scheme there will be immediately available for any national emergency over sixty trucks. In the circumstances the high importance of such an organisation will immediately appeal as a commonsense measure in the best interests of New Zealand’s war effort. By the new scheme there will be provided for the public a more expeditious motor carrying service with an important saving in petrol which will be fully appreciated by every patriotic citizen. The depot of the new organisation is situated in the old Masterton Imple ment Go’s, building in Lincoln Road, Masterton.
