SALE AT ADDINGTON. STRONG DEMAND FOR STOCK. IBy Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 6. Record entries filled the Addington yards today for the double market held before Carnival Week. No fewer than 848 fat cattle and 8000 sheep were penned, a record in cattle and probably in sheep. The demand for both secticns continued strongly till the conclusion, sheep being a shade dearer than last week, and all but heavyweight cattle practically maintaining last week's rates. Store sheep showed a slight increase in entries, mainly ewes and lambs. These sold draggingly at Is. 6d. a head easing. Spring lambs met with a keen sale until the final stages, averaging values being IOJd. to Is. a lb. Fat sheep: Wethers improved by Is. 6d. a head, making from 375. to 41s. for best and down to 345. for medium weights, ewes from 345. to 385., tops to 405., and medium weights down to 28s. Passings were negligible. Fat cattle: Generally good quality plain station steers were easier by up to 20s. a head, and indifferent cows by 10s., but prime medium weight beef was unaltered, making from 465. to 495. a 1001 b., for best, down to 435. for medium. Prime steers ranged from £l7 to £2O, tops to £24, and medium weights and best heifers from £l4 tp £l6. The long sale varied little in values paid. Fat pigs: A good sale, fully on a par with that of last week for both porkers and baconers. Porkers made from £2 14s. 6d to £3 9s. 6d., the average price a lb. being 7Jd. to 9d.; baconers. £3 9s. 6d. to £4 11s. 6d„ the average price a lb. being 6.’,d. to 7£d. MASTERTON SALE. STORE WETHERS IN DEMAND. The Associated Auctioneers report as follows on their weekly sale held yesterday. A good entry, of store and fat sheep came forward, the stores comprising chiefly ewes with b.f. lambs at foot. Fat sheep met a fair sale at prices about on a par with those at our last sale a fortnight ago. Store wethers sold particularly well. The following were the prices:— Fat sheep: Fat wethers, 245. 2d., 245. 3d., 245. 4d.; light fat wethers, 225. 4d., 225. 10d.; heavy fat ewes, 15s. to 15s. 4d.; fat ewes, 13s. 2d. to 145.; fat woolly ewes, 18s. 3d.; fat maiden ewes, 18s. to 18s. Id.; fat woolly hoggets, 225. 7d. 245. Id. to 255. 4d.; fat lambs, 245.
Store sheep:—Four-tooth wethers, 20s. 4d. to 20s. 10d.; woolly ewes, with b.f. lambs at foot, 145., 16s. 9d. to 18s. (all counted), store woolly ewes, 9s. 9d. Cattle:—Springing Jersey heifers, £7 15s, cow in milk, £6 10s.; fat dairy cows, £5 16s. to £6 55.; store cows, £3 to £4 ss.;yearling Jersey heifers, £6 to £6 11s.; yearling Jersey bull, £5 10s. Pigs: Slips, 30s; weaners, 18s. 6d., 205., 235., to 245. Seven-year hill pony, £lO 15s.
