MANAWATU SHOW

OPENED YESTERDAY EXCELLENT DISPLAY OF STOCK. CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ November 6. Opened by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, today in dull weather that turned to heavy rain, with a detrimental effect on the attendance and an interruption in the programme of outdoor events, the fifty-fifth annual spring show conducted by the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and.. Pastoral Association has again justified the association's reputation for providing one of the finest show-ring exhibitions of live stock to be seen in the Dominion. Entries in the horse, sheep, cattle and pig divisions total nearly 1200, representing a decrease of only 2 per cent on those received for last year’s fixture, but the falling-off in numbers has been more than compensated for by the fact that the classes throughout were higher in quality than even at previous Manawatu shows. This improvement, the result of the improved standard of breeding, and also the fact that the stock have come forward in tip-top condition after a mild winter, created such competition that, in many cases, the live stock judges had the utmost difficulty in separating the placed animals from the other entries.
