GREYTOWN
CROQUET CLUB MONTHLY MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Croquet Club held its monthly meeting in the park pavilion yesterday afternoon, when Mrs. H. G. Carter presided. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames A. W. Horton. E. Richards, A. Haigh and Ward. In the draw for the Horton buttons as made and Mesdames Gregor and Reid will meet Mesdames Haigh and Maddison next Saturday afternoon. A yankee half-hour tournament is to begin on Saturday, November 16, and a competition afternoon is arranged for Saturday, November 23. PLUNKET SOCIETY BRIDGE party. The Plunket Society held a bridge party in the Plunket rooms yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Stevens was the first prize winner. Mrs. A. W. Horton won the flowers.
DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School was held last night, there being present Messrs. F. Dennes, E. Gayler, J. Morison, W. Wiggins, Mrs. Knell and the headmaster, Mr. S. C. Shedden. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. H. G. Carter and W. Grigg. Mr. Wiggins was voted to the chair. The headmaster reported as follows: —Roll numbers, primary, 299; secondary, 41. Last month three pupils left the high school to enter positions, one on a farm, one in a garage, and one in an office. Dr. Mulholland and Nurse Hodgetts spent four days conducting medical examination of the pupils. The secondary department had sown 21 acres of mangolds; also peas, maize and a large quantity .of forestry seeds. The primary department had been concerned with maize sowing, onion planting and forestry work. During the month, Mr. Brown, manual training supervisor, visited the school. Messrs. Brigans and M. Johnston visited the secondary department. Photographs of the various classes were taken last Friday. Miss D. Tully has entered the local hospital where she will undergo an operation. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £l5. Accounts passed for payment totalled £1 15s. The school visitors reported that they had visited the school twice during the month and found the conditions most satisfactory. The Late Mr. Thomas Orr. The Greytown diggers are asked to assemble at the Presbyterian Church at 1.45 p.m. on Wednesday to attend the funeral of the late Mr. Thomas Orr.
