LITTLE DAMAGE

AND FEW CASUALTIES CAUSED BY SATURDAY’S BOMBING. ENEMY FORMATIONS DISPERSED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 2. _ Little damage and no Royal Air Force losses are features of reports of today’s enemy raids on Britain. The raids tonight were on a small scale and ended some time before midnight. Bombs were dropped on the London area, the Home coun ties and in east and south-east England. The damage in these areas on the whole was not great and the casualties were few. ( One enemy plane was destroyed during the night. It was brought down in Kent. Its cargo of bombs exploded when the machine crashed. The plane was blown to pieces and the crew killed. A communique states: “Since dawn today two strong formations of enemy aircraft, mostly fighters and fighterbombers, crossed the coast of Kent and flew northward toward London. The earlier attack, which took place at about 8.45 a.m., was met by our fighters and turned back before reaching London. During this raid bombs were dropped in Kent but there was little damage and few casualties. “The second attack developed about an hour and a half later and was on a larger scale, consisting of about 100 aircraft. The main formation was again dispersed by our fighters and anti-aircraft defences, but a few planes flew over the London area at a great height. A few bombs were again dropped in Kent, but the damage was slight and casualties very small. “Later in the morning several raiders attacked the Thames estuary and dropped bombs in two localities of Kent and Essex. There was some damage and a small number of people were killed and injured.”
