RANGITUMAU

FAREWELL SOCIAL PRIVATE CUSACK HONOURED. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Rangitumau Hall was packed last night when district settlers and many visitors from surrounding districts gathered to farewell Mr and Mrs E. Mortensen, who are leaving for Pahiatua, and Mr and Mrs W. Robertson, who are taking up their residence in Eketahuna. Opportunity was alsotaken to honour Private M. Cusack, a member of the Fourth Reinforcements. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mr Jack West, and the duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs L. W. Wilton and T. D. McLachlan.

Supper was served by the Rangitumau ladies. Messrs W. F. McLaren and D. C. Stuart, on behalf of the residents of Rangitumau, made the presentation of silver tea pots and butter dishes to Mr and Mrs Robertson and Mr and Mrs Mortensen and wished them every happiness in their new homes. Reference was made to the services they had rendered the district. Private Cusack was presented with a safety razor, a hold-all with a set of hair brushes and a well-filled wallet. On behalf of the Masterton Football Club he was presented with a silver cigarette case. The recipients returned thanks for the gifts and the sentiments accompanying them. Dancing was resumed and the function was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
