MAURICEVILLE
PATRIOTIC APPEAL MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) At a meeting of the Mauriceville Patriotic Committee held in the Public Hall, Mauriceville recently there were present Mr. E. W. Cheetham in the chair, Messrs. J. W. Milner (Mauriceville East), V. W. Caseley, A. G. Thorby and P. K. Ngatuere (Hastwells), A. Forsberg, W. H. Bird, H. C. Mortensen (Mauriceville West), J. D. McDonald and C. Judd (Ihuraua), and O. H. Nikola’ison (secretary). Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs F. Dunn, and J. McArley. The business of the meeting was to consider what action was to be taken in response to the appeal for £1,000.000 for the National Patriotic Fund. The chairman explained that he had hoped to have some definite proposal to place before the meeting as a result of the Masterton Provincial Council meeting. However, no clear decision had been arrived at. After discussion it was decided that collection lists be taken round in the Hastwells, Ihuraua, Mauriceville West and Mauriceville East districts and that some social function be held in each district to raise funds in aid of the Provincial Patriotic Fund. It was also decided to sell tickets in the art union to be launched by both the Wellington and Masterton committees, and so still further augment the local effort towards this worthy appeal. It is hoped that in every case the residents of the district will give their fullest support to these proposals.
