EKETAHUNA
ENJOYABLE DANCE GATHERING AT TIRAUMEA. (“Times-Age” Special.) Tiraumea was the scene of a very successful dance held in aid of the Patriotic Funds. Mrs Geoff. Houlbrooke and Mr Alf. Rowden were responsible for the excellent music provided, both again giving their services free. Visitors were present from all parts of the district, and dancing continued until the early hours of the morning. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr Warren Burling. During the evening a beautifully iced cake made and donated by Mrs H. Hansen was raffled, and was won by Miss Phyllis Duncan, who generously handed it back for auction, the last bid being that of Mrs Scott Raleigh. OBITUARY MR A. MANGUSON. Another link with the coaching days of Eketahuna was severed by the death at Wanganui last week of Mr Allan Manguson, at the age of 76 years. After relinguishing the proprietorship of the local livery stables, the late Mr Manguson entered the hotel business in Eketahuna and conducted the Ranfurly Hotel (now Liverpool House), the Commercial Hotel (where the billiard saloon now stands), and the Club Hotel. He was in the license of the latter hotel when no-llcense was carried. He married in Eketahuna Miss Emma Murrell, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robert Murrell, who predeceased him some months ago. One son, Mr Hector Manguson (Wanganui) and a sister, Mrs Douglas (Wanganui), are left. The funeral took place at Wanganui last Saturday.
