SCHOOL AFFAIRS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ("Times-Age” Special.) The School Committee met on Thursday evening, there being present, Messrs S. Mclntosh (chairman), Sutton (secretary), Carter and Riwai.' An apology for absence was received from Mr J. Duggan. Accounts amounting to £4O were passed for payment. A letter was received from the Education Board wiih reference to the resolution adopted by the Board in regard to the Lord’s Prayer at the commencement of school lessons. It was decided to agree to the resolution. The Board wrote relative to the existing contract for the cartage of school children. It was decided to adhere to the terms of the letter. The secretary reported that he had arranged for the school hedges to be trimmed. The secretary’s action was endorsed. The secretary was instructed to pay the Dental Clinic, Martinborough, the usual contribution. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs R. Pearce are visiting Wairoa in connection with the funeral of Mr Pearce's father. Mr H. Carter is an inmate of the Greytown Hospital. Mr £. Taurau is visiting Dannevirke. Mrs Murphy and her family have returned to Martinborough. Mr and Mrs Collins have returned to Wellington. Damage to Fruit Trees. Considerable damage was caused to fruit trees as the result of the severity of the north-west gale experienced in this district on Friday. Golf Club. Owing to bad weather the closing of the season by the local Golf Club has been postponed to November 2. Successful Fishing Parties. Large parties patronised the Lake Ferry and Whangamoana beaches on Sunday, the weather being ideal. Fishing parties were successful in netting large quantities of flounders while sea fishing was fair.
