The heavy traffic fees allocated for the quarter amounted to £47 12s 6d. The ranger reported that no stock was impounded during September. The engravers wrote stating that the brass plate for the Centennial Rest Room would be forwarded in the near future. It was decided to have a photograph taken of the Centennial Rest Room and to forward the same to the Internal Affairs Department as requested. The Wairarapa A. and P. Society wrote asking that the people’s day of the show be made a public holiday. This was agreed to. Councillor F. Wood was appointed to represent the council on the Wairarapa Licensing Committee in place of the late Mr H. T. Rees. Messrs Thompson and Tate wrote stating that no appeal had been lodged against the closing order in connection with properties in Main Street. The council passed a resolution that the owners be required to demolish the buildings within 30 days. The Greytown Trust Lands Trust wrote stating that after Cr Farley had interviewed the Trustees at their last meeting, the following recommendations were made: (1) That it be a recommendation to the Borough Council that the grant of £2O made by the Trustees be expended on the entrance to the Park and the Camping Ground; (2) that the Trustees recommend the council to graze the outside area during the period it is not required by the sports bodies. In connection with this matter the following resolutions were carried, on the motion of Cr Tate, seconded by the Mayor: (1) That the playing area in the Park be advertised for grazing until the end of March; (2) that the £2O grant received from the Greytown Trust Lands Trust be spent in the manner they suggest. Messrs W. A. Tate and H. J. Farley were appointed to fill the vacancies on the advisory committee for the Memorial Park. It was reported that the current year's rates collected to October 10, the last day on which the rebate was allowed, amounted to £3084 Is lid. The total rate levied for the year was £4451 9s 2d. The collection was, therefore, 69.28 per cent of the rate struck. This is slightly less than last year when the percentage of rates collected for the same period was 70.08 per cent. Arrears of rates collected so far this year amount to £363 13s 7d against £l5B Is 9d collected last year.
