SHED DESTROYED

PETROL AND FARM TRACTOR ALSO LOST. TE ORE ORE RESIDENT BADLY BURNED. The explosion of two 44-gallon drums of petrol stored in an implement shed on the property of the Frank Percy Estate, Te Ore Ore. on Wednesday night attracted the attention of the household, when it was found that the shed was burning fiercely. Mi’ Colin Percy, 28, married, who attempted to save a tractor housed in the shed, was badly burned on both hands and the right leg and after receiving medical attention by Dr. J. C. Forsyth was admitted to Masterton Hospital. The Masterton Fire Brigade received the call at 9.12 o’clock and a pumping unit and six men proceeded to the fire. On arrival, however, the brigade found the shed burnt out and nothing could be done. The building was one of 40ft by 10ft and was used for the storage of farm implements and as a wood shed. Referring to calls for the brigade to attend fires beyond the Fire- Board’s district, the Superintendent, Mr T. B. Clark, said the brigade was under no obligation to answer calls beyond its district and it was useless to do so in any case unless there were an adequate supply of water available at close range. It had to be understood, moreover, that if the brigade did proceed beyond the town fire district, those summoning it had to bear the expense of calling on its services.
