DENTAL CLINIC
REORGANISATION PROPOSALS NEW COMMITTEE ELECTED. MEETINGS TO BE HELD EVERY MONTH. Following on a constructive discussion, steps to expedite the reorganisation of the Masterton Dental Clinic Committee were taken at a large and representative meeting held in the Lansdowne school, Masterton, last night. A new committee of 15 members representative of school, committees throughout the district, the Head Teachers’ Association, and town and country women's organisations, was set up. Mr W. R. Nicol presided over delegates from the following schools ami organisations:—Gladstone, Kopuaranga, Lansdowne, Central, West, Opaki, Poroporo, Solway, Te Ore Ore, Tinui Whakataki, Whareama, Whatman, Mangapakeha, Taueru, Taratahi, St Patrick’s, St Bride’s and Fernridge schools; Masterton Dentists’ Association (Mr J. W. Dove); Townswomen’s Guild (Mesdames Dagg and Jarvis); Women Teachers’ Association (Misses Wiggins, Sellar, Allen); Head Teachers’ Association (Messrs Coddington, Farrell, Berry); Country women’s organisations (Mrs W. James); League of Mothers, (Mrs Dagg); Country’s Women’s Club (Mrs Taylor); Fernridge Parents’ Association. Many others were also present, and several apologies for absence were received. Mr J. W. T. Jones, secretary of the Masterton Head Teachers’ Association explained the steps he had taken to convene the meeting as a result of a meeting held in Masterton six weeks ago. He thanked all who had assisted him in awakening public interest in the affairs of the clinic committee. “I wish to congratulate Mr Jones on the success he has made. This is the largest meeting I have even seen in connection wtih the clinic. I trust that the public’s interest will be continued,” stated Mr Nicol. “Might I add my congratulations to Mr Jones. It is indeed pleasing to see the interest taken in this meeting,” stated Mr J. Robertson, M.P. “I don’t wish to start an inquest, but Masterton’s showing has not been too good. There has not been the interest shown in the dental service that it deserves.” Mr Robertson pointed out the necessity for Masterton to take full advantage of the service provided by the Government, observing that dental hygiene was a vital factor in the health of the rising generation. A suggestion that separate clinics should be established at the main schools gave rise to considerable discussion. A recommendation was passed that the incoming committee give, the matter full consideration. The following committee was elected: Mesdames W. James (women’s organisations), J. G. Dagg (Townswomen’s Guild and League of Mothers); Messrs S. Allan (Whatman); L. Robinson (St Patrick’s); J. McDonald (Te Ore Ore); S. Haybittie (West); W. H. French (coastal district); C. K. Long, and J. G. McFarlane (Lansdowne); R. Chamberlain (Solway); P. H. Shaw (Central); K. Gibbs (East School); G. Laing (Fernridge); and E. G. Coddington (Head Teachers’ Association). It was decided to invite a nomination from the Mauriceville East and West schools. Executive Meeting. At a subsequent meeting of the executive, Mr E. G. Coddington was elected chairman, and Mr J. G. McFarlane secretary. It was decided to hold meetings on , the first Tuesday in every month. Mat- IL, ; ters of future policy were fully discussed.
