SAVAGE CLUB

FLOOR MEMBERS’ KORERO. INSTALLATION OF CHIEF. There was a large attendance at a meeting of the Masterton Savage Club on Saturday night, the evening taking the form of a floor members’ korero. The meeting commenced with the opening ode and the installation of Savage F. R. Henry as Chief, the ceremony being carried out by Savage G. E. Allen. An item by the orchestra was then followed by an ode to the council by Savage Kent Johnston. Paleface McKay, of Wellington, sang, and a sketch "Only Twice” was given by Savages Harris and Malmo. A talk, which proved particularly interesting, was given by Paleface J. F. Thompson (Greytown). Savages Cottle and Harris entertained with a sketch in two acts entitled “Before and After,” and Paleface Thomas (Wellington) sang popular numbers. A sketch “Heaven Or?” was given by Savages Hancock and Bilderbeck, being followed by a song by Savage Mexted. A sit-down supper during the Buttery Hatch adjournment was an appreciated innovation. In the second half of the programme Paleface McKay sang, and a sketch "A Job Well Done,” was given by Savages Rayner and Gilliland. The concluding items were a song by Paleface Thomas and a string trio by Savages Malmo, Hancock and Kent Johnston. The opening and closing odes were specially composed for the occasion.
