PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) Miss Holmes, who is a student at Dunedin, is expected to visit her parents, Mr and Mrs E. C. Holmes, Te Hopai, this week. Mrs Jas. Duggan Junr., who has been in hospital, has returned home. Mr J. McDonald, Tauanui, has returned from a short visit to Hastings. Mr E. Taurau has returned from Dannevirke. Mrs R. Rangi was a recent visitor to Wellington. London Appeal Fund. The bachelors and spinsters held a meeting recently when it was decided to hold a dance, the proceeds of which will be donated to the London Appeal Funds. Shearing Operations. The shearing of dry sheep commenced here last week. This district is fortunate in the matter of shearers as there are quite a number resident here. Outlet of Lake Nearly Closed. The outlet of the lake, as the result of the heavy weather experienced last week, is nearly closed. Flounders Plentiful. Flounders are plentiful at the Lake Ferry and several large hauls have been secured lately. The weather was beautifully fine at the weekend and the seaside was largely patronised by local residents and visitors. Flag Staff at School. A flag staff has been erected in the grounds of the local school. First Aid Demonstration. The ladies of the district met at the Tauanui homestead the other evening, when Mrs Marshall gave a demonstration of bandaging, etc., which was greatly appreciated by all present.
