HOMING PIGEONS
MASTERTON CLUB. RACE RESULTS. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew two races recently, one from Picton in the south, 96 miles, and from Mercer in the north, 253 miles airline distances. Thirty-three birds were liberated in Picton in fine weather, with a southerly wind, the first six placings for club points being:’--C. J. Douglas's "Dixie.” 3 hours 11 minutes 23 seconds, 1; F. Harding’s “Red Lilac," 3-13-45, 2; I. Mayes’s “Black Magic.” 3-39-19, 3: I. Mayes’s “Reliance," 4-9-29. 4; A. Pinkney’s "Airline.” 4-13-47. 5: W. J. Miller’s “Night Star." 4-27-16, 6. The birds from Mercer were liberated in overcast weather, and flew against a strong head wind, which slowed up the velocity considerably. The‘first six positions were filled by:— I. Mayes’s "Sherwood.” 9 hours 11 minutes, 55 seconds, 1: W. J. iVlillcrT "Strath Tay," 9-12-29. 2; J. M. Mayes’s "Little Danube." 9-12-42. 3; C. J. Douglas's “Miss Stanhope." 9-15-52. 4: A. Pinkney's “Gay Artist." 9-20-3. 5; C. J. Douglas’s "Bovyn," 9-56-7. G. The winner of the pigeon competition was Mr 11. Bond, of Carterton.
