MASTERTON MEETING

WEIGHTS DECLARED. The handicapper, Mr H. Coyle, has announced the following weights for the first day of the Masterton Racing Club’s meeting, to be held on October 17 and 19: — ELECTRIC HANDICAP, of £95.

Etzel in Good Heart. Etzel is in good heart and is striding along in splendid style at Opaki. The Siegfried gelding, who is trained by his owner, Mr J. A. Robinson, should soon be fit for the district spring meeting. Master Solway. Master Solway is looking bigger and brighter than for some time past, and the Black Ronald gelding should not be long in getting into the stake money. Master Solway was six times in the money last season. Te Kawiti. Te Kawiti. winner of the big race at the Ohinemuri meeting is in the New Zealand Cup at 7.10. lie is a four-year-old gelding by Night Raid from Queen March, dam of King March. Pateena, Gay Marigold and Limarch, and is owned by Mr E. R. Davis, M.L.C., and Mr O. Nicholson. His previous success was in the Jellicoe Handicap at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting at Ellerslie in August, and in his race before that he was successful in the Autumn Handicap, a mile and aquarter, at Avondale in April. His only other win last season was over a mile at Ellerslie in January. Queen March is by Lucullus from March, by Marble Arch, from Lady Musket, by Blairgowrie from Buskerina, by Musket, so that, with Night Raid as his sire, Te Kawiti has every credential as far as staying blood is concerned. Jumping Well. Sky Limit and Larwood are jumping soundly in their work at Opaki. The former is shaping particularly well and I should pay his way over sticks.
