A very, pleasant time was held on Thursday last, the occasion being a farewell to Mr and Mrs George Vennell, who are leaving the district to reside in Masterton, after very manyyears residence at Te Wharau. The esteem in which the guests are held was shown by the attendance which represented every household in the district. The gathering took the form ■of a dance and card party. During the supper adjournment Mr R. McKinstry on behalf of all those present and their many friends in the district, presented Mrs Vennell with an electric water jug, while Mr Vennell received a pipe. In replying, Mr Vennell said that he was overwhelmed with the expressions of goodwill, and regretted very much leaving so many friends after such a long association. Supper was served by the ladies. The music for the dance was supplied by Mrs lan McGregor and Mr R. McKinstry. Distress in London Fund. It has been decided to hold a dance in the hall on Saturday evening, October 12, the proceeds of which are to be donated to the Distress in London Fund. As all the dances here are well patronised, one for such a deserving cause is assured of success. There will be games and competitions during the evening. Supper will be supplied by the ladies and will be up to the usual high standard.
