ALFREDTON
FAREWELL GATHERING TWO PRESENTATIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The School Committee members and the local Patriotic Society branch joined to tender a farewell social to Miss M. Grant and to Pilot B. Berney. The large number present testified to the popularity of the two guests. Mr C. H. Hartley, chairman of the School Committee, referred briefly to the many good personal qualities of Miss Grant and to the general i l egret at her departure. He then presented her with a token of esteem from parents and children. Mavis Edmonds also made Miss Grant a gift, on behalf of the members of the Junior Red Cross. Mr R. W. Kebbell, chairman of the local branch of the Patriotic handed a wristlet watch to Pilot Bruce Berney. and voiced the good wishes of all. Pilot Berney suitably replied. Music for dancing was supplied by Mesdames Hood. Smith. Houlbrookt.*, Spring (piano), and Mr lan MacDonald (bagpipes). Supper was served by the local ladies and the singing of'Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem brought to a close a pleasant gathering. Personal Items. Miss M. Grant left on Saturday morning for Kingston. Mr H. Rolls has had to enter the Pahiatua Hospital for treatment. Miss M. Smith spent the weekend with her parents. Mr Evan (“Buster”) Rolls had the misfortune to sustain a fall from his motor cycle and to severely sprain his ankle. Master Barry Rolls, who is in the Pahiatua Hospital suffering from pneumonia, is reported to be progressing favourably. Miss M. Kilminster, who has been staying with Mrs G. Thompson, has now returned to Kumeroa. Aircraftsman H. C. George left on Saturday on his return to camp and was accompanied as far as Wellington by Pilot Bruce Berney.
