INTERHOUSE GIRLS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION ARRANGEMENTS FOR FIELD DAY. SEVENTEEN TEAMS COMPETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Interhouse Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms last evening. There were present Messrs G. Daubney, J. Bruce, J. Hayden, G. Davis, R. Foster. D. Bell. R. Pawson. A. J. Callister, A. Saunders, F. Graham, and the secretary-treasurer, Mr D. Costello. It was decided that the £5O given to the Government in March as an interest free loan for the duration of the war be converted to the New Zealand Government War Loan, 1953.

No further action was taken in regard to the proposal of the Fort Dorset Band playing for the marching on the annual field day. Should the Masterton Band be unable to supply the music for that day arrangements will be made to get an outside band. Seventeen teams have handed in their names and colours for this year’s display, which will be held on Monday, November 25. They are as follow: State Kitchenette, Woolworths (N.Z.), Offices, W.F.C.A.. Ltd., Associated Garages, Stock & Station Agents, Thos Borthwick’s, J. R. McKenzie’s, Regent Hosiery Mills, Cathies & Sons, J. Graham & Co.. Leecroft, Cody’s. Hugo & Shearer’s, Macduff’s, and also two teams from Carterton.

During the week Mr Hayden and Mr Bell visited Carterton and explained to several business men what the association had been doing. They met with a most favourable response from the girls in Carterton. Consequently two teams were formed to take part in this year’s display. Messrs Callister, F. Graham and the secretary were appointed a sub-com-mittee to arrange the physical drill and the ball games. The Winter Sports Club’s application to organise an Interhouse table tennis tournament was granted. The association still requires the services of several coaches for the girls’ teams and anyone who is willing to coach any of these teams is asked to communicate with the secretary.
