EKETAHUNA

FIRE BRIGADE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. ("Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Municipal Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last night, Superintendent H. Rogers presiding over a good attendance of members. Accounts amounting to 5s were passed for payment. It was decided to donate the sum of £ 1 Is to the London Air Raids’ Victims’ Fund. It was decided that the four-man motor competition for the Tripe Cup be held on Octo"oei’ 15.

GOLF COMPETITION RESULTS. The various competitions held by the Eketahuna Golf Club during the weekend resulted as follows: — Bogey match: P. Page, 1 down; B. Bradley, 1 down; H. D. Murray, 1 down. Medal match: R. Dickson, 89, 22, 07. Championship final: The final of the men’s senior championship between P. Page and P. Bouzaid will be played during the weekend. On Saturday a fourball bogey match will be played.

GREGORIE CUP. In a challenge match for the Gregorie Cup played during the weekend, the Pahiatua Golf Club successfully withstood a challenge from Eketahuna. In the following results, Pahiatua players are mentioned first: — Twoball: J. G. Swainson beat J. Dickson; J. Richardson lost to P. Page; A. Donald beat P. Bouzaid; R. Mills lost to M. Fraser; N. Judd halved with D. Fraser; A. J. Morgan beat H. Walton; G. Swainson beat N. Richardson; R. J. Carruthers beat B. Rigden; W. H. Watson beat M. Shale. Fourball: J. G. Swainson and Richardson beat Dickson and Page; Donald and Mills beat Bouzaid and M. Fraser; Judd and Morgan beat D. Fraser and Anderson; Wilson and G. Swainson beat Walton and N. Richardson; Carruthers and Watson beat Rigden and Shale.

CRICKET ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING.

At the annual meeting of the Bush Cricket Association the election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr J. E. Hewitt; president, Mr C. C. Smyth; vice-presi-dents, Mrs M. D. Cornelius, Messrs A. L. C. Wilson, W. Lawry, E. Matson, T. H. Verry, H. Higginson, J. McKay, J. de P. Manson, A. P. Ralph; executive, president, treasurer, secretary and Messrs D. R. Salter, K. C. Montgomery, E. Matson and R. Mills; treasurer, Mr T. Fouhy; secretary, Mr W. C. Leith; hon. auditor, Mr L. A. Truscott. The following teams notified their intention of participating in the competition this year, Mangamaire, High School, Pahiatua, and Pahiatua Fire Brigade.

BASKETBALL i — j SENIOR COMPETITION. The following were the results in > the senior basketball competition games played in the Pahiatua Drill j Hall on Monday evening:—Stars A 26 ! beat Konini B 15; Hukanui 16 beat - Stars B 11; United 21 beat Eketahuna > 16; Tuis 24 beat Hamua 4; Konini A 27 I beat Stars A 19. r The fixtures for next Monday night are:—Stars B v. Konini A. at 6.30 p.m.; l Eketahuna v. Stars A, at 7.15 p.m.; United v. Hukanui, at 8 p.m.; Konini B v. f Tuis, at 8.45 p.m. DRAMA CIRCLE l SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. On Saturday evening last a most successful concert was staged in the Kaiparoro Hall by the Drama Circle of the Eketahuna Women’s Institute. The programme consisted of three sketches by members of the Drama Circle, elocutionary items by Mrs A. Gyde and , Miss A. Schultz, songs by Constance and Bobby McAlister and Miss O. Falkner, and items by a Maori party from Hastwells. There was a large audience and the proceeds, amounting to £ll will be divided between the Kaiparoro Patriotic Committee and the Eketahuna Institute's fund for comforts for the fighting forces. Light refreshments were served and a dance held . subsequently. The gathering proved very enjoyable. PLUNKET SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL EUCHRE PARTY. A successful euchre party, organised by Mrs G. Woodley, was held in the Putura schoolroom recently as a result of which the funds of the Eketahuna branch of the Plunket Society will benefit to the extent of £3 12s. Mrs H. Allan was the lucky ticket holder in a competition for a box of chocolates.
