BOWLING
OPENING OF MASTERTON CLUB’S SEASON. , FIXED FOR OCTOBER 19.
It was decided at a committee meeting of the Masterton Bowling Club to hold the club’s official opening of the season on Saturday, October 19. The usual rinks tournament is to be held on Labour Day, and a good day’s bowling is anticipated. The president mentioned the death of an old and honoured bowler, the late Mr W. McCullough, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect. The resignation of Mr D. F. Thurston as sole selector of the club was received with regret, and the position was filled by Mr A. Stubbings. A very generous donation in the way of a trophy for each of the next five years was offered by the sons of the late Mr McCullough. Their wish was that these trophies should be given for a competition that would be enjoyed especially by week day players. A photograph was received of the late Mr D. Guild from his relatives, and is to be hung in the pavilion. It was. reported by the delegates to the centre that Mr Hayne had again I been elected president of the centre. Permission was granted to the centre to hold a tournament on the greens cn the King’s Birthday. November 25. MASTERTON TEAMS.
