MARTINBOROUGH
HOME GUARD PARADE LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The interest in the Home Defence Guard is still maintained, and despite the bad weather about one hundred paraded last night. Much useful work was done in drill and signalling. The football ground has been placed at the disposal of the Home Guard, and on fine nights the outdoor work is carried cut by floodlight.
BOWLING OPENING OF SEASON. The local bowling club intends to open its season on Saturday afternoon and has invited all other Wairarapa clubs to take part. The green is in capital order, and given warm weather should play true and fast. SHOOTING TRAGEDY INQUEST ON VICTIM. An inquest concerning the death of George Edwin Hall was held by Mr T. E. Lang, District Coroner, on Monday night. Ottilia Silvia Hall, wife of deceased, stated that she last saw her husband at 8.20 o’clock on Monday morning. He had not been well lately, being unable to sleep, and had on several occasions said he would end everything. Dr McTavish gave evidence that he had been attending Hall. Seymour Brice stated he had been talking to deceased in the kitchen when he left and went into another room. Hearing a noise he went to see what had been the cause and saw Hall lying on his back with a rifle lying across his body. Constable Prussing gave evidence in regard to taking charge of the body. A verdict that deceased shot himself was returned. Swimming. With the completion of the Centennial Baths a proposal to form a swimming club is under way.
