BE A SUCCESS

SOME USEFUL HINTS. You’ll be a success with men and yourself if you: . Forget they're men and treat them like human beings. You'll find it’s easier. Never make up your mind beforehand that this is the man and everything is going to be different. The practice is fatal. Always enjoy yourself, or at least appear to enjoy yourself. And never let enjoyment be measured by the size, or lack of size, of the bill. Wear the right clothes. Or if you have not done so, on any occasion, there is nothing you can do about it, so enjoy yourself just the same. Can be silent without being embarrassed or embarrasing, but don’t consider yourself sufficiently beautiful to get away with being dumb. Don’t think it’s clever to swear or chain-smoke or have another little drink, or boast about past conquests. Don’t act the Amazon or the helpless little woman, or the swooning siren. One looks so silly twined temptingly round the tiller if the man’s absorbed in splicing the mainbrace. Aren’t insulted if the man makes love to you—or if he doesn’t. Get rid of the idea that there is something shameful about being alone. There isn’t, if you don’t waste the time wishing you were doing something else. Never spend time with second-rate people to avoid your own company. Set out to use the day, not lose the day, and learn the difference between relaxation and stagnation. Plan ahead to climb a hill or see a view or read a book you’ve always wanted to read—and then do it. Have courage to speak to strangers and see that beauty spot even if there are cows in your path. You’ll be surprised how easy it is. Turn your thoughts outwards. Don’t brood over yesterday’s worries or dramatise imaginery scenes with yourself as the highly improbable heroine. Look and listen. Interesting people, are always observant people—but most of us have to train ourselves before we see and hear.

Develop an inquisitive nature. Ask questions, and see that you get the answers even if you have to supply them yourself with the aid of an encyclopaedia.
