HINTS FOR THE HOME
MAKE A NOTE OF THEM. Lint, fluff, or hair can be easily removed from woollen clothing by moistening a sponge with water, squeezing it almost dry, and applying to the cloth. When you next bone a fish, a good idea is to have a bowl of boiling water handy. Pass the fish quickly through the water and you will find that the backbone will then come out quite easily and clean. If the oven is too hot, put a large basin of cold water into it and it will cool quickly. When dusting, try using a 31-inch-wide new varnish brush for uneven surfaces and mouldings into which the duster cannot reach. A sore or ulcerated mouth can be relieved by applying a mixture of powdered alum, bicarbonate of soda, and ordinary table salt (a dry teaspoon of each). Use the fingertips when applying the mixture. Coloured wools for mending garments of unusual shades may be got in small skeins of tapestry wool. To keep beetroot: After boiling,, pour hot instead of cold vinegar over it, and thus ward off mould.
