EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Borough Council was held last night, when the Mayor (Mr W. Simpson) presided, others present being Councillors P. S. Page, K. Marenzi, W. Olsen, D. D. Ryan, E. M. Simmers. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. M. W. Priest. The Town Clerk (Mr B. Dinnan) reported on the borough’s finances as at August 31 as follows:—District Fund Account, dr £lB9 Is 6d; Domain Account, cr £3 14s 2d; rate arrears, £509 13s 3d; cemetery arrears, £22 10s; library arrears, £l. Accounts amounting to £ 187 6s were passed for payment. The following building permit was issued during the month: A. W. P. Roach, Parkville, dwelling, £845. The foreman, Mr S. Daniel, reported. inter alia, as follows: —Several footpaths require attention. Some of the old wood kerbs are collapsing. Portions of the sealed paths are carrying away as the kerb collapses. Noxious weeds: A very great spread of broom and gorse has been noticed and attention of property owners should be drawn before the flowering .and podding season occurs. The old wooden culvert at the intersection of Queen Street and Main Street appears to be collapsing, causing flooding on the Bank of New South Wales corner when heavy rain occurs. The proposed work for the month is attention to tlje extremely bad sections of the footpaths, extension of the cleaning of water-tables and drains, patching of the metalled and sealed sections, shouldering, and repairs to water mains and valves. The provision of the footpath to the Primary School is in hand and should be completed this week. The report was adopted. The Wairarapa Hospital Board forwarded a schedule of fees to be written off by the board. Personal. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital yesterday of Mr Arthur (“Tip”) Spring, son of Mr and Mrs J. Spring, of Nireaha.
