BOROUGH AFFAIRS MEETING OF COUNCIL LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Martinborough Borough Council was held last night. There were present the Mayor (Mr C. W. F. Skill), Councillors M. N. Hardie, M. Mulvaney, A. T. Hamilton, D. J. Green, W. H. Corfield, G. ,P. Cotter, and C. R. Holmes. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors W. F. Gundris and P. R. Plummer. A motion of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr H. L. Griffiths, Borough solicitor. A letter was read from Mr E. R. Foreman, picture proprietor, offering to provide the labour for painting the vestibule of the Town Hall if the Board would provide the paint.—lt was resolved that the offer be accepted and the sum of £3 spent on the work. The Wairarapa Live Stock Auctioneering Companies wrote asking the council to 'put in a culvert at the saleyards. The request was agreed to. The Christchurch Patriotic Committee appealed for help in connection with the Welcome Club for soldiers. — The letter was received. Mr F. P. Duffy, caretaker of the Town Hall, wrote asking that his employment be placed on a contract basis.—The request was granted. The revenue received since the last meeting amounted to £lB3l Is Bd. Accounts passed for payment totalled £4ll 19s 9d. The Works Committee reported that the headworks had been cleaned out. and that repairs to the sealing would be started immediately. It was resolved to apply to the Labour Department for some subsidised labour' Mr H. Hardinge, County Clerk, waited on the Council and explained the provisions of the National Emergency Bill in detail with reference to the committees appointed for emergency service. It was decided that Mr Hardinge be empowered to procure the necessarybadges and stationery, and Mr Lee was appointed controller of medical supplies. Golf. The best cards handed in for the bogey handicap on Saturday were: H. Harvey 1 down; 4. Flynn 2 down; R. Baker 3 down. Points scored in the Campbell Sievers Memorial Cup were: H. Harvey 3 D. Flynn 2. R. Baker 1. The leading scores are: A. F. Harding 8. L. Chapman 7J, H. Harvey 71, L. Speedy 61. E. C. Sadd 5.
