GREYTOWN
CROQUET CLUB MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Croquet Club was held in the Park Pavilion yesterday afternoon, Mrs Brunton presided in the absence of the president, Mrs H. G. Carter. 'After an inspection of the lawns it was decided to meet again before the end of the month to arrange the opening day for early in October. FIRE BRIGADE LIFE MEMBER ELECTED. The monthly meeting of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last night. Superintendent J. Wood presided and there was a full attendance of members. Fireman E. Boyd was elected a life member of the brigade in recognition of valuable services rendered during the past 25 years. The secretary was instructed to write to the Wairarapa Electric PoweiBoard in reference to the pulling of pole fuses in case of fire. The Inspector of Fire Brigades wrote regarding new hose, and the secretary was authorised to reply pointing out the necessity of some new hose being allocated to Greytown. It was reported that arrangements had been made with the telephone exchange to ring firemen on the phone after the alarm had been given. Fireman J. Thompson was appointed assistant caretaker and motor driver. RETURNED SOLDIERS COMMITTEES MEETING. A meeting of the committee of the local branch of the R.S.A. was held at the residence of the secretary, Mi' G. R. Robinson. Mr J. W. Herod presided and others present were Messrs R. O'Neale, W. Hutching, R. Dyson and S. C. Shedden. Apologies for absence were received from Miss Higginson and Messrs H. G. Carter and A. Nisbet. Correspondence was read dealing with the formation of a branch of the Home Guard in the near future. The local branch of the R.S.A. agreed to attend in full force at any meeting called for that purpose. Arrangements were made for the distribution of comforts to any Diggers who may at any time be inmates of the local hospital or Buchanan Home. It was reported that the recent '‘Diggers’ Night,” held at Morison’s Bush, had been a success from all points of view. Personal. Mrs C. Dalbeth, of Akaroa, is the guest of her sister, Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins, Kuratawhiti Street.
