Mrs R. J. Berry, of Masterton, is visiting Hastings.

Mrs W. Eising, of Makomako, has her sister, Mrs C. Creagh, West Coast, staying with her.

Mrs Fielding, of Palmerston North, is visiting her mother, Mrs E. Sowry, Makomako. Miss Anne Price, of Palmerston North, is a „ guest of Mrs Burness, Roberts Road, Lansdowne, for the coming-of-age party of the latter’s daughter, Jeannette. A well-known Nuhaka district resident, Mrs Kathleen Christy, died in Wairoa Hospital at the age of 54 years. She was the wife of Mr Sydney Christy, and a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Welsh. She was a valued worker for the Church of the Latter Day Saints and a member of the Ngapuki Tribe. She had lived for about 20 years in America, where she was married, and returned to New Zealand some years ago. The death has occurred of Miss Susan Kathleen Wellwood, second daughter of the late Mr and Mrs A. Wellwood, of Hastings. Miss Wellwood was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, and came to New Zealand as a child. She entered the teaching profession as a trainee at Hastings District School, after which she served in Tikokino and Pakipaki. She then became headmistress at the Hastings West School, and Gisborne Central School, going finally to Nelson Park School, Napier, where she retired. She was president of the Napier High School Old Girls’ Association, and an active member of the Hastings Plunket Society and the Hastings Townswomen’s Guild. Miss Wellwood is survived by one sister and three brothers.
